What Happens During a Fire Alarm in a Commercial Building
When a fire alarm is activated, the Fire Alarm Control Unit (FACU) acts as the system’s central command. The alarm may be triggered automatically by smoke or heat detectors, sprinkler systems, or manually by a pull station.
The FACU identifies the alarm location and activates audible and visual alerts such as horns, speakers, and strobes to warn occupants. It can also control critical safety functions, including elevator recall, door releases, and smoke control systems. At the same time, a signal is sent to a monitoring center or fire department to ensure a rapid emergency response.
The FACU continuously monitors the system until the event is resolved and the system is safely reset.
